Dr. Chad A. Malpass
Dr. Chad Malpass grew up just a few miles down the road from Westchester Veterinary Hospital. He started working here as a veterinary technician in 2009 while pursuing degrees in Biology and Chemistry from our very own High Point University. Thereafter, he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine, where he was awarded the Robert D. Horne Orthopedic Surgery Award and is the recipient of the National Bayer Excellence in Communication Award.
He has special interests in osteoarthritis and ACL (more correctly called CCL) injury and repair. He also enjoys nutritional medicine and educating clients on how to keep their pets happy and healthy. Dr. Malpass has received additional training in diagnostic ultrasound.
In their free time, Dr. Chad, his wife Alix, and their boxer Sookie love to eat great food and travel. Weekends are filled with hiking, biking, skiing, bird hunting, fishing, or exploring something new; whether it be 10 minutes from home or on the other side of the globe. Did we mention he likes to eat?
Dr. Chris Hernandez was born and raised in South Florida. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science with a minor in Chemistry from Berry College.
Dr. Hernandez has decided to call North Carolina home, after earning his Doctorate from Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine, where he was named a Merck Student Scholar. His special interests include orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, anesthesia and rehabilitation medicine. Dr. Henandez has received additional training in Fracture stabilization and repair techniques as well as emergency ultrasound testing.
In his free time, Dr. Hernandez enjoys exploring new places with his wife Natalie and daughter Ava. They enjoy being outdoors, going to the lake or beach and playing frisbee with his black lab Dyson.
Dr. Chris M. Hernandez
Dr. Blake Smith grew up in the small town of Canton, North Carolina, in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from East Tennessee State University, with concentrations in public health and biology. Dr. Smith attended veterinary school at Ross University on the Caribbean island of St. Kitts; she completed her clinical rotations at the University of Missouri.
Dr. Smith’s interests include soft tissue surgery and orthopedic surgery, as well as rehabilitation. She looks forward to contributing to the surgical team at Westchester Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Smith is also a certified Fear Free practitioner and is passionate about providing effective care while utilizing a low stress approach that creates a positive experience for her patients.
In her free time, Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with her two dogs, Baby and Keiko. Baby the Pit Bull enjoys performing tricks and showing off her talents, while Keiko the Husky enjoys playing fetch. Dr. Smith also enjoys traveling with her husband, Chris, and visiting her family in Western North Carolina. She has a passion for dance and enjoys taking and teaching classes in many disciplines, including lyrical, jazz, and tap dance.
